Film and TV hair and make-up professional Rupert Simon
, whose credits include War Horse, Poldark and Star Wars, has spent a week at Coleg Gwent
teaching masterclasses to students.
Starting his career over 35 years ago in hairdressing, Rupert then worked in the West End dressing wigs, before training in make-up, period hairdressing and prosthetics. To date he has worked on over 100 television dramas, movies, commercials, music videos, operas and theatre productions.
Lecturer Tammy Wheeler said: “We were very lucky that Rupert Simon spent a week with us here at Crosskeys Campus
teaching H.N.D Level 4 Specialist Make-Up
students. The master class entailed – Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s hair and make-up. He also demonstrated applying wigs and how to dress them.”
Rupert, who also works as a course leader for Creative Media Skills
based at Pinewood Studios
in both London and Wales, has a passion for period hairdressing and likes to teach the original techniques of the period.
“It was a fantastic experience for the students who thoroughly enjoyed the course, as well as benefiting from Rupert’s amazing knowledge. They were able to practise the skills demonstrated and he really inspired them to further their career in specialist hair and make-up,” added Tammy.
